Panasonic Considers Selling Suzhou Factory
On March 10th,Reuters quoted the nikkei newspaper as sayingthat Panasonic Japan is considering the sale of a Chinese production plant. The company hopes to receive more than 450 million US dollars in revenue from this transaction. According to reports, this production plant is located in Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province and mainly produces security cameras. Panasonic is expected to receive 50 billion yen (about 468 million U.S. dollars) in funds from this transaction. It plans to use this money for other key business activities such as car batteries. Earlier, on March 8th, it was reported that Panasonic was investigating the production of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) in two factories in Jiangsu Province, China. Reuters quoted informed sources, Panasonic hopes to complete the first round of bidding in early April, potential buyers include the US equity fund Carlyle Group, the British fund Permira Fund and the British private equity fund CVC Capital Partners. The Nikkei News also said that Panasonic may terminate the negotiations if it does not receive a satisfactory offer.
