Imbalance of China's Investment in Five ASEAN Countries Is Obvious
On December 29, 2017, a conference on the release of "Blue Book of Overseas Chinese: An Annual Report on Overseas Chinese Study (2017)" co-hosted by the Overseas Chinese Research Institute of Huaqiao University and the Social Science Academic Press was held in Beijing. Blue Book pointed out that the characteristics of China's investment in five ASEAN countries are as follows: First, the fields of investment continue to expand. At present, China's investment in the five ASEAN countries covers almost all industries, while leasing and business services, manufacturing, electricity / gas and water production and supply, wholesale and retail trade, mining, finance, construction, agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry Industries, fisheries, transportation and warehousing are major sectors of investment. Second, the distribution of investment is not balanced. Singapore is one of the five ASEAN countries that receives the largest share of China's direct investment. Before 2002, Thailand was the country that absorbed most of China's direct investment (non-financial) among the five ASEAN countries, accounting for about 53.33% of China's investment.During this period, the Philippines, which absorbed the least investment of China, accounted for only 3.95% over the same period. At the end of 2015, Singapore accounts for about 68.8% of China's direct investment in the five ASEAN countries. Third, diversification of investment patterns and types. The investment approach of the Chinese enterprises in the five ASEAN countries has developed from the initial green field investment to cross-border M & A, technology investment, BOT and other forms. Investment types include processing trade, resource development, market development, contracting labor services, trade and other types of services. Fourth, state-owned enterprises' investment dominates, and private-owned enterprises' investment has grown rapidly. At present, the private sector in China invests in a wide range of industries in the five ASEAN countries, mainly in the fields of manufacturing, agriculture, mining, trade and high technology, and its investment scale is constantly expanding.
