The output of autumn grain was 998.7 billion jin, an increase of 6.7 billion jin. In terms of main varieties, the output of rice, wheat, soybean increased, while the output of corn decreased slightly. The output of rice was 423.7 billion jin, an increase of 4.5 billion jin over the previous year, up 1.1%. The output of wheat was 268.5 billion jin, an increase of 1.3 billion jin or 0.5% over the previous year. The output of soybean was 39.2 billion jin, an increase of 3 billion jin or 8.3% over the previous year. The output of corn was 521.3 billion jin, a decrease of only 200 million jin over the previous year. Regionally, Heilongjiang, Henan, Shandong, Anhui and Jilin, the top five grain provinces, produced 150.8, 136.5, 108.9, 80.4 and 76.1 billion jin respectively. 26 of the 31 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government increased their grain output, with Henan, Shandong, Shanxi, Hebei and Xinjiang all increasing their grain output by more than 1 billion jin each. Despite the bumper harvest, China's appetite for imported grain is growing. According to data released by the General Administration of Customs, imports of grain from January to November 2020 reached 129.202 million tons, up 29.6 percent year on year, surpassing the 11.44 million tons imported for the whole year of 2019. The difference between the prices of grain at home and abroad has stimulated imports. At present, the price differences of wheat, rice and corn are 333 yuan/ton, 16 yuan/ton and 609 yuan/ton respectively. Since 2020, the price advantage of imported grain has been obvious, and the imports of corn, sorghum and barley have increased significantly.
