Smartphone Shipments Increased Only 2% in 2017
Recently, according to market research firm Counterpoint Research, last year, global smartphone shipments grew 2% year-on-year to 1.55 billion units, while the top ten vendors achieved 77% market share. Specifically, the top five global shipments last year did not change, followed by Samsung, Apple, Huawei, OPPO and vivo. Samsung's global market share for 2017 is 21%, continuing to lead the smartphone market with Apple still in second place with a market share of 14%. However, Apple overtook Samsung as the world's largest smartphone maker in the fourth quarter of last year. In terms of domestic brands, Huawei's shipments grew 10% YoY last year mainly due to the strong growth in shipments in China and impressive overseas sales. Huawei's China business was mainly driven by its new brand "Honor", which accounted for more than 60% of Huawei's total shipments last year. OPPO and vivo accounted for 8% and 7% market share last year, ranking fourth and fifth respectively in the world. Mi became the fastest-growing mobile phone brand last year, an increase of 56%. Its global smartphone shipments reached 96 million units last year, accounting for 6.1% of the market. LG shipped 55.9 million smartphones last year, ranking seventh, accounting for 4% market share. Lenovo ranked eighth last year, accounting for 3% market share. ZTE and TCL (Alcatel) fell sharply last year, ranking ninth and tenth in the world. It is worth mentioning that, in the fourth quarter of last year alone, Apple's global shipments of 77.3 million units, down 1% year-on-year. However, with the new iphoneX, iphone8 and 8 Plus three machines, the average selling price (ASP) increased by 100 US dollars to 796 US dollars level.
