"Warming up" has become a general term for China's foreign trade in 2017.According to the statistics of the Customs, the total value of China's trade in goods for import and export in 2017 was 27.79 trillion yuan, an increase of 14.2% over 2016, reversing the previous two-year decline. Among them, exports are 15.33 trillion yuan, up 10.8%; imports are 12.46 trillion yuan, up 18.7%; trade surplus are 2.87 trillion yuan, narrowing 14.2%. In 2017, the import and export value of China increased quarter by quarter, reaching 6.17 trillion yuan, 6.91 trillion yuan, 7.17 trillion yuan and 7.54 trillion yuan, up by 21.3%, 17.2%, 11.9% and 8.6% respectively. However, in December 2017, the leading index of China's export foreign trade was 41.1, down 0.7 from the previous month, indicating that China's exports still face some pressure in the first quarter of 2018. Huang Songping, spokesman for the General Administration of Customs, said that in 2018, there are quite a lot of favorable conditions for the development of China's foreign trade, but it should also be noted that the factors restricting the growth of foreign trade still exist. First, the international environment is intricate,with deep and structural contradictions still prominent on a global scale which may have an impact on the global economic recovery and the stability of financial markets, and the road to world trade recovery will continue to be tortuous. Second, the global manufacturing industry has become increasingly competitive. On the one hand, some emerging market countries rely on low-cost advantages such as labor and land to promote the development of middle and low-end manufacturing and to compete with China's traditional dominant products. On the other hand, the developed economies implemented the policy of "rebalancing the economy and re-industrialization" to promote the return of some middle and high-end manufacturing industries. The global competition in manufacturing will be more intense. Third, the global trade protectionism is still heating up. At present, the cases and amounts of trade remedy investigations suffered by China's products are at a relatively high level in recent years. Industry experts said that China's import and export this year is expected to continue to grow. However, due to the still relatively large number of uncertainties in the international environment and the large base last year, it is more and more difficult for foreign trade to maintain double-digit growth.
