The Number of General Taxpayers in China Has Increased Steadily Since the Second Quarter
According to data released recently by the State Taxation Administration, the number of general VAT payers increased by an average of 88,000 monthly in the first 10 months of this year, up 0.86% month-on-month, achieving steady growth. Among the changes in the number of general VAT taxpayers in the first 10 months, the taxpayers from wholesale and retail industry increased the most, accounting for 32.8% of the total increase, while the taxpayers from the manufacturing industry accounted for 15.4% of the increase in the number of general taxpayers. Driven by positive factors such as resumption of work and production, centralized settlement, and investment in new infrastructure, the construction industry grew the fastest, reaching 2.2%. It is worth mentioning that since the beginning of this year, private enterprises have contributed nearly 90% of the increase in the number of general taxpayers, effectively boosting the stability of the basic economy. As the general VAT taxpayers are paxpayers with an annual taxable sales of more than 5 million yuan, their tax rate accounts for 97% of the VAT tax revenue. Therefore, the number of general taxpayers and the changing trend of business conditions can reflect the level of development and operation of China’s economy from one aspect. Xie Wen, director of the Department of Tax on Goods and Services under the State Taxation Administration, pointed out that with the orderly resumption of production since the second quarter, the number of general taxpayers has increased by an average 105,000 monthly, an average monthly increase of 1.01%, basically reaching the level of the same period last year.
