UK Formulates a 10-Point Plan for a Green Industrial Revolution
The United Kingdom has unveiled a 10-point plan for a green industrial revolution to achieve the goal of "net zero emissions" of greenhouse gases by 2050. The 10-point plan includes: 1. the UK will have sufficient offshore generating capacity to power every household by 2030, making the UK a "Saudi Arabia of wind energy". 2. 500 million pounds will be invested in hydrogen energy. 3. A new nuclear power plan will be pushed forward. 4. More than 2.8 billion pounds will be invested in electric vehicles, installing enough charging stations, and produce durable batteries in Britain's Gigafactory so that the UK can stop selling new petrol and diesel cars and vans by 2030. 5. Have cleaner public transport, including thousands of green buses and hundreds of miles of new bike lanes. 6. Realize zero emissions of trans-oceanic shipping. 7. 1 billion pounds will be invested next year to make homes, schools and hospitals greener and reduce energy bills. 8. The government will invest 1 billion pounds in the north of the England, Wales and Scotland to build industrial clusters that will create a world leading new industry in carbon capture and storage. 9. By 2035, 30,000 hectares of trees will be planted and rural areas with the size of 30,000 football fields will be restored to a wild state in order to take advantage of nature's ability to absorb carbon. 10. Help the commercialization of new low-carbon technologies through a 1 billion pounds Energy Innovation Fund. Boris Johnson, the British Prime Minister, stated that he wants to turn London into a global green finance center through sovereign bonds, carbon offsets markets and information disclosure requirements.
