China and Japan Could Reach A Travel Agreement as Soon as This Month
Japanese media revealed that the Chinese and Japanese governments could reach an agreement to restart business exchanges as soon as October. Both short-term stays such as business trips and long-term stays such as resident staff will be accepted. In the case of a short stay, a negative certificate of the novel coronavirus test and an action plan should be submitted as a condition to the exemption of observation for 2 weeks after entry. After the release of the agreement, the procedures for mutual acceptance of entry will be initiated within a few days. An agreement on both the short and long term would make China the fourth country to reach such an agreement with Japan after Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam. According to the Japan National Tourism Administration (JNTO), there were 370,000 business arrivals from China in 2019, the largest number of people among all countries. Japan and South Korea, the second largest country (310,000 people), have resumed business contacts for long and short stays. The agreement with China would allow Japan's economic restart and move forward. In order to reduce the impact on the economy and society, the Japanese government has started negotiations with other countries to ease the entry restrictions since June. The negotiation parties targeted at business tourists are 16 countries and regions in the Asia-Pacific region with relatively few new infections.
