Apple's iPad Takes the Lead in the World to Use a 5-nanometer Chips
Apple recently held a new product launch event of fall. The new iPad Air runs on a 5-nanometer A14 processor manufactured by TSMC, announcing the birth of world's first 5-nanometer chip. Apple used to used its latest A-series processors in new iPhone of the year. A new iPhone was not released at the new product launch event this fall. Instead, a new iPad and a new Apple Watch took the lead. The new iPad Air is equipped with a 5-nanometer A14 processor, which is the first time Apple has released a new product with the latest processor on a non-iPhone product. TSMC's 5-nm chip has been pre-ordered by big customers such as Apple, Huawei HiSilicon and AMD. The market originally believed that the world's first 5-nm new product was HiSilicon's 5G flagship chip "Kirin 9000". However, the "Kirin 9000" did not appear in the IFA Exhibition in Germany in early September as expected. Apple announced that the new iPad Air will carry a 5-nanometer A14 processor, making the A14 the world's first 5-nanometer chip to be unveiled. It is understood that Apple has subscribed about two-thirds of TSMC's overall production capacity for the 5 nanometer, injecting strong momentum into THE development of TSMC.
