The Consumption of Low-income Group Is the Key to Stimulating Domestic Demand
"In the past, the US powered the world economy with its 300 million domestic demand. In the future, China's 1.4 billion domestic demand will drive the world economy," Jack Ma said in a speech at the 2020 Online Smart China Expo on September 15. Domestic consumption is not only the consumption of the rich, but the consumption of low-income group is the real power of domestic demand. Jack Ma said digitization will truly drive China's domestic demand. The domestic demand of China’s 1.4 billion population is far from being tapped. The development of digital technology will bring China's domestic demand to a new stage. Recently, the main macroeconomic operation data for August released by the National Bureau of Statistics showed that the total retail sales of consumer goods in August was 3.357.1 billion yuan, up 0.5% year on year, the first positive growth so far this year. In the first half of this year, transfer payments have significantly increased the stability of residents’ incomes, especially those of low-income households or groups in financial difficulties, Fu Linghui, spokesman for the National Bureau of Statistics, said at a press conference of the State Information Office on September 15. In the next stage, as the economy continues to recover and employment remains stable on the whole, household consumption will steadily improve and increase. Fu emphasized that with a population of 1.4 billion and over 400 million middle-income group, China has huge consumption potential.
