As China shifts its foreign trade focus to service trade, the growth rate of service export gradually picked up. According to the data from the Department of Trade in Services of the Ministry of Commerce, China's service export in July were 172.5 billion yuan, an increase of 3.3%, among which, the export of personal cultural and entertainment services were 1.04 billion yuan, up by 65.8%; transportation exports were 34.46 billion yuan, up 26.9%; the export of telecommunications, computers and information services reached 45.41 billion yuan, up 24.3%; financial services exports reached 2.22 billion yuan, up 20.3 percent year on year. In the first seven months of this year, the decline in China's service export narrowed, while the decline in service import increased. The decline in exports was smaller than that of imports by 21.4 percentage points, resulting in a 49.4% decline in the service trade deficit to 448.77 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 438.35 billion yuan. In the first seven months of this year, the import and export of knowledge-intensive services reached 1,151.34 billion yuan, an increase of 8.9% and accounting for 44% of the total service import and export, up 9.7 percentage points. Among them, the export of knowledge-intensive services were 610.3 billion yuan, an increase of 9.7%, accounting for 56.2% of the total service export, up 5.7 percentage points. The areas with faster growth in exports were intellectual property royalties, insurance services, telecommunications, computers and information services, up 31.9 percent, 12.9 percent and 16.9 percent respectively. The import of knowledge-intensive services were 541.04 billion yuan, an increase of 8%, accounting for 35.3% of the total import of services, up 10.1 percentage points. The areas where imports grew faster were telecommunications, computer and information services and financial services, up 28.5% and 16.6% respectively. Overall, affected by the epidemic, the scale of China's trade in services declined from January to July this year, but its export performance was significantly better than that of imports, its trade deficit in services was significantly reduced, and the proportion of knowledge-intensive trade in services increased.
